Optimizing Our Pick and Packing Process

The world of eCommerce is booming, with the global market expected to reach more than $4 trillion in sales this year.

Yes, we’re blown away by this number too.

As a warehouse and fulfillment centre working with eCommerce businesses of all sizes, Borderline has been exceptionally busy this year. With more and more businesses shifting to online sales, they are faced with the challenges of streamlining their ordering and fulfillment processes.

And that’s where our Borderline team can help. We understand how easy it is to get lost in all the moving parts of picking and packing orders for fulfillment. We continually adapt our strategies so clients can know with confidence that we are using the most efficient and accurate processes for fulfillment.

Here are just some of the many strategies we like to use to optimize the pick and packing process.Woman Shelving Inventory

Fulfillment Operations

One way we do this is by optimizing our warehouse design. We develop a layout for each of our clients who use our pick and packing services. We determine which products need to be readily accessible based on demand. This planning enables our team to accomplish faster pick times and get orders shipped quicker.

We also monitor the fulfillment process to identify any areas that affect the efficiency of the workflow. Since we specialize in the full spectrum of services from warehouse storage to distribution, we are conscious of how both ends can affect fulfillment and vice versa. We continually track the process from start to finish so we can anticipate issues before they become problems for our clients.

Automated Technology

We fully embrace what technology can offer for optimizing our order fulfillment process. Our Warehouse Management System (WMS) software enables us to streamline how we process orders. We can track thousands of products, each with a unique barcode, from our warehouse to a customer’s door -- all in real time.

Up-To-Date Inventory

Our Warehouse Management System also helps to reduce errors through its precise tracking of SKUs. This software, known as our “Wireless Technology in a Box,” is exceptionally helpful during peak times like the holidays when there is no time for mix-ups and missing order items.

For our clients, this organized system means there are fewer returns because of fulfillment errors. The software also tracks which products are running low so our clients avoid last-minute shortages.

Team Communication

With everything logged in our WMS, our skilled team has what they need to pick and pack orders accurately. Even with the changing nature of orders, inventory counts, or repackaging, our team can track changes and updates. They can also stay informed about orders that are high priority, such as those with same-day shipping.

If you’re ready to grow your eCommerce operations, our Borderline team is ready to help you with an order fulfillment process that’s right for your business!
